A
middle-aged,
sorry excuse
for a man.
I've got a bone to pick with Boston Globe sportswriter Bob Ryan for not only disrespecting a man's wife, but for disrespecting whom would have been my future wife had Jason Kidd not beat me to the punch. In case you have not heard, but the other night, Ryan, who can be seen on ESPN's "Around the Horn," was on WBZ TV's show "Sports Final," hosted by Bob Lobel. Ryan told the host that he'd "like to smack" Jason Kidd's wife, Joumana, because he feels that she uses her son T.J. as a "prop.""I got theories with this woman, this Joumana Kidd who wants to be a TV star. Shewants face time on camera. The great way to get face time is to bring the cute, little precocious kid. Oh, great. I'd like to smack her," said Ryan. Host Lobel gave Ryan a chance to retract his statement during the show, but Ryan refused. Ryan's comments were in extreme poor taste, not only for his blatant disrespect of a man's family, but for his ignorance in making a reference to an act of domestic violence. The Kidd's marriage already has a history of domestic abuse, and for Ryan to take a cheap-shot at that is journalism at its very worst. Plain and simple, Ryan is just a middle-aged, sorry excuse for a man that wishes he could have a woman with even half the beauty of Joumana to simply give him the time of day. Duke, you're a hater. Besides, your comments about Joumana don't even make sense to begin with. Do you really think that she would need to bring her son to the game to receive camera time?? Look at the lady, she's a notch. During televised New Jersey Nets games, the director cuts to a shot of Joumana to appeal to the male demographic out there who are tuned into the telecast. Sex sells my man, and if you have a problem with a mother bringing her son to a basketball game to have the good fortune to watch his father, a future hall-of-famer, play in the NBA, then I think you're the one that needs a smacking. - May 7, 2003
