A disappointment or a delight: only time will tell.
East Bay native and former Miami Hurricane quarterback Ken Dorsey was
picked up by the 49ers in this weekend's NFL draft. While this is more
than just another case of Bay Superiority, my thought of the day is
centered around the reason why everybody wrote this kid off and allowed
someone with a collegiate record of 38-2 as a starter to fall all the way to
the 241st pick overall (7th round). Sure he is a tall, thin quarterback that
definitely will need to bulk up a bit to survive life in the NFL, and had been
said to be "not too elusive in the pocket."

Dorsey, however, has a great arm, and more importantly is a proven
winner and leader, as he excellently demonstrated
during his tenure in the land of milk and honey...
aka Miami. One has to remember that everything
negative that has been said about Dorsey during
these past few months leading up to the draft were
for the majority comments made by people who
have never been there before. They've never played
the game and while are quite knowledgable, should
not be taken as if their words are golden. Who is to
say that Carson Palmer will not be a bust and
Dorsey will shine. Time and time again we learn that
where you are selected in the draft does not reflect
upon your possibility for success in the NFL. All I'm
saying here is to give this kid from the Bay a chance.
You may not be disappointed, afterall, one of the
greatest QBs of all time was selected in the 3rd round...#16 Joe Montana.
